Magnetic Field Effect on the Radical Yield of Electron Transfer Reactions Between a Dye Triplet and Heavy Atom Substituted Electron Donors

چکیده

The radical yield in the electron t ransfer reactions between thionine tr iplet and various halogenanilines, as measured by kinetic flash spectroscopy in the microsecond time region, decreases by application of magnetic fields up to 4 kGauss . The relative magnetic field effect parallels the influence of the heavy atom substi tuents on the intersystem crossing ra te constant in the triplet exciplex supposed to be the pr imary product of the electron t ransfer reaction. The magnetic field effect is suggested to be due to differences of the g-factors in the geminate radical pair , originating by dissociation of the triplet exciplex.

Control of Photo-electron-transfer Induced Radical Production by Micellar Cages, Heavy-atom Substituents and Magnetic Fields

Intramicellar radical pair formation and recombination kinetics in the electron transfer quenching of the thionine triplet by aniline and various monohalogenated anilines have been studied by microsecond and nanosecond laser flash spectroscopy in reversed micellar solution of COBA in benzene. Clear kinetic evidence of the micellar cage effect is provided by a comparative spectro-kinetical study...

Heavy Atoms as Molecular Probes in Studying the Solvent Dependence of the Dynamics of Triplet Exciplexes

Electron transfer reactions between thiopyronine triplet (acceptor 3A+) and the electron donors (D), aniline, p-Br-aniline and p-I-aniline, are investigated by flash spectroscopy in solvents of different viscosity and polarity. Due to the heavy-atom effect the radical yield becomes very ~ensitive to the solvent influence, which can be explained by the dynamic properties of a triplet exciplex (3...

Spin-Orbit Coupling Induced Magnetlc Field Effects in Electron-Transfer Reactions with Excited Triplets: The Role of Triplet Excipiexes and Radical Pairs In Geminate Recombination

The magnetic field dependence of free-radical yield in the electron-transfer quenching of methylene blue triplet by picdoaniline has been determined between 0.00 and 3.30 T in methanol/ethylene glycol mixtures of various viscosities by using laser flash spectroscopy and a photostationary flow technique. The observed decrease of the free-radical yield with the magnetic field is interpreted by he...

Electron transfer reactions induced by the triplet state of thiacarbocyanine dimers

The photoinduced electron transfer between either cationic 5,50-dichloro-3,30,9-triethylthiacarbocyanine (1) or a structurally similar anionic dye (2) and appropriate donors, e.g. ascorbic acid, and acceptors, e.g. methyl viologen, was studied by ns-laser photolysis. In aqueous solution the dyes in the ground state are present as an equilibrated mixture of dimers and monomers, whereas the tripl...
